Many weeks ago, I took to germinating an acorn. The goal was to observe its growth into a small sapling using a special glass vase expressly designed for this purpose. Then, to plant this new oak tree in the spring. I didn’t really consider this to mean anything other than to offer me a glimpse into the nature of the early phases of growth of an acorn. This morning, after many weeks of waiting, the root erupted.
Yesterday, I had the occasion to study the Bible verse, "Without cost, you have received; without cost, you are to give” Matthew, chapter 10, verse 8. In full context, Jesus is instructing His disciples as He sends them out to proclaim the Kingdom of Heaven, emphasizing the generosity and grace they have been equipped for their mission. This verse highlights the principle of freely sharing the gifts and blessings received from God.
Pay it forward. Pay it like it really isn’t yours to begin with. Isn’t this the spirit of Christmas?
