How to Build a Personal Commitment for Change through Thought

human dynamics inspiration mindful intention positive psychology Jan 20, 2020

I'm sticking with this theme of the last couple of weeks of mindset and positive psychology. It's a foundation for everything you want and everything you are. If you do not think about what you wish to manifest, positively and consistently, it will not manifest in the way you desire, or not at all! If you think negatively, you will live that reality. It will become who you are. "I can tell your future, just look what's in your hand" - Robert Hunter.

Like anything that involves belief and faith, how do you muster the energy to commit to change? What evidence do you have that all of this effort will, in the end, work out? Below are three recent experiences I had that reinforce my growing understanding of the power of thought on our day to day lives.

Recently, after re-watching the movie "Oh Brother, Where art thou," I was reintroduced to this tune by Allison Krause. I remember times in my life where this song brought me great comfort. Please watch. But understand that this tune might be in your head for the rest of the day.

I went down to the river to pray...

With this song in mind, I link the power of song to the greater community. I reconnect with the power of music. With little effort, these thoughts brought me immediate peace of mind.

On a recent trip to Memphis, Suki and I decided to seek out a proper Gospel Service, inspired by this tune. I've always been drawn to the inspirational aspect and the power of song. Many years ago, a colleague of mine, Frederic Borderie, visited me from France and was obsessed with attending real Gospel Services in Boston. With him in mind, I sought and found the Full Gospel Tabernacle of the Reverend Al Green. Yes, that Al Green. He was always an R&B favorite of mine. He doesn’t preach often, but he was preaching that day. Two rows in front of us sat Pricilla Presley. It was magical! I sought inspiration and love. We found it in the embrace of a church in multiple dimensions. I had been thinking of this connection to Gospel since watching the darned movie!

Reverend Al!

Reverend Al, in his sermon, reminded the congregation that through the power of belief, you're able to achieve anything. There it was again. Experiencing a community that believes in something further propagates the manifestation. Thank you, Reverend Al.

Later, on Beale Street in Memphis, we popped into A. Schwab, a vintage general store and soda fountain. One of the original members of the Schwab family is an expert in the making of Mojo Hands. A Mojo Hand is a special pagan "HooDoo," talisman used to "conjure" or manifest. They are meant to lend you a "hand" with the work you must do to manifest what you want. They are only curios unless you do the work, which is to focus and believe what you want can be attained. Actively thinking that your own MojoHand, (a small satchel filled with lodestones, herbs, High John the Conquerer Root, and personal artifacts), will give you a “hand” is the same exact thing I’m talking about here.

Lightning Hopkins tells us how Mojohand's are better than marriage counselors.

Both Pagan and Christian traditions reinforced the power of thought in my personal journey for growth and fulfillment. All in one glorious, adventurous weekend.

After returning home, I ventured out on my morning routine, which includes a walking meditation and a jog back home. I checked the temp on my phone and saw it was 37 F. Not too cold, but it was mighty windy, so I dressed for cold but did not overdo it. It wasn't that bad out. When I got down to the pond, I saw it, free of ice. We'd had a recent warm spell causing ice-out. Seeing that rippling water made me think of Summer. When I returned, I rechecked the phone for the weather and realized I was looking at Memphis, not Gloucester when I read 37 degrees. In reality, the temperature was 14 F, with a 0 F windchill. This is pretty damn cold! I hadn't noticed. The evidence presented was a contrary perceived reality because I misread my phone and saw the ice-free pond. I was convinced that it wasn't that bad out. Consequently, I enjoyed my morning constitutional as if it was mild. For real. I shook my head in BELIEF!

I know these stories might not resonate with you, but they are ones that helped me to reinforce the power of thought in our lives and to me. The very act of my conscious thought since the beginning of the year to actively manifest what I want, put these experiences into a perspective. This perspective is part of the ongoing manifestation process. This manifestation process creates momentum which in turn will present other experiences to me.

What are the stories in your life that give you faith in the power of thought? Find them, write them down, and let them be foundations on your path to abundance.
